| The charming town of Jinotega is conveniently located 8 miles from the property on paved roads.
Jinotega means eternal city.
With a population of approximately 52,000 people, you are never far from the grocery store, restaurants, the post office, a hospital, the dentist, banks, photo processor, video store, Internet café, or night out on the town.
The town is famous for its coffee and is the breadbasket of Nicaragua providing much of the meat and produce for the rest of the country.
The square is particularly attractive and features one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Nicaragua, La Catedral de San Juan, founded in 1805.
The people of Jinotega, and the surrounding area are known for being exceptionally friendly, and when exploring it is not uncommon for them to invite you into their homes for Rosquillas, a salty pastry enjoyed with coffee.
History
The original inhabitants of the area were the Sumo, Chontal, and Chorotegano Indians. During those pre-colonial years a Chief or Cacique and Counsel of Elders ruled the land.
At the end of the 18th century, the Spanish Conquest began in the Northern territory provoking a conflict that lasted until the Independence of Nicaragua in 1821.
Although populated for hundreds of years, the city of Jinotega was officially founded on October 15th, 1891. Not long after, the province was also named Jinotega.
